Tom brings with him 18 years of experience in designing, building, and finishing residential and commercial stairs. His passion is woodworking and he has some of the highest standards in the industry, fine details that most ignore are areas where Straight Up Stairs shine. Tom spent his first 4 years of learning the trade in Utah under some of the best and most well-known carpenters in the country. He has never met a staircase design he couldn't make a reality for his clients. Before starting Straight Up Stairs, Tom worked for some of his competitors, learning from each of their mistakes. He knows what clients care most about, and makes their satisfaction his top priority.

Straight Up Stairs is a family owned and operated business. 80% of the projects are installed by the owner along side his master craftsmen. Originally from the UK, owner Tom Lawson knew his early interest in working with his hands, particularly with wood, would allow him to one day express his artistic side through woodworking.
Since beginning his craft in St. George, Utah in 2005, he has diligently sought every opportunity to perfect his abilities. With a goal of transforming clients' homes with artistic staircases, Tom has found himself on a fulfilling path to becoming one of the top stair builders in the United States. Humbled by both the challenges and the triumphs of the job, Tom carries that same passion he started with each and every day, demonstrating with one stair at a time that he and his company Straight Up Stairs are here to change the stair game forever.

They did a fantastic job on our staircase and teh folks they use to paint are also amazing. Tom and his folks were professional, easy to work with, did a fantastic job and we are completely happy with the work they did. We did not realize what a difference the change would make to our house.

Tom and his team are the absolute best! Scope of work on this project: Take out thick walled dated stairway. Open up the space. Replace carpeted treads with solid hardwood. Add wooden banister and horizontal rods. First I would like to attest to the quality of their work. They are true artisans. The carpentry they do is phenomenal. They pay the closest attention to every detail of the job, and the results are spectacular. I explained my vision to Tom, and he brought it to life. I would also like to add that they are reliable, trustworthy and honest. All qualities that make them an absolute pleasure to work with. I highly recommend this company.

5* just aren't enough!!!! Words on paper can not express the absolutely amazing job that Tom and Curtis did building our new stairs. From the first meeting, Tom was communicative, honest, fair and a pleasure to work with. All the guys showed up on time, the craftsman ship, attention to detail, downright enjoyment in what they do, and their professionalism and kindness exceeded anything we could imagine.
